We had some great conditions for the maiden voyage of RowTahoe’s new Maas 27, to be named Burnt Cedar after this location. When I put the boat on the water at 6:45am, the temperature was around 57 degrees, the sun was shining, and there was no wind whatsoever - not even a slight breeze. The smoke from the Dixie Fire had cleared out over night, so the air was clean and the water was delightful. A few small waves, likely the remnants of wakes from distant motorboats, rolled by, but otherwise it was quiet and calm.

This is a great time of year for rowing racing shells on Tahoe. The wind usually picks up and the powerboats start chewing up the water later in the morning, leading to more “coastal” conditions, but before about 10am the water is like glass and you pretty much get the lake to yourself. I saw one other boat out that morning. One. Just think about that for a moment - 196 square miles of perfect water, and barely anyone enjoying it.

This was a short outing to get the feel for the boat and check the rigging. After some minor adjustments, she’ll be ready for action! Picture to follow…
